Make it smaller
If you have spent any time at all online you would have sent a link to someone in an email or posted a link in a forum. How many times have you done this and the link is some huge long string with all sorts of characters in it that stretches over several lines? Not only does it stretch over more than 1 line in an email, but when the person gets your mail and click on it they probably won’t get to the page. This is referred to as a broken link and it is a right pain in the butt when you are on the receiving end.
Rather than posting a huge, ugly link you can use a website to create a short url out of the longer one. This is not magic, but might look like it at first! It really is a fairly simple matter if you look into how it is done. The “trick” is that the site that makes the Short URL is simply a database with a fancy lookup string. They take your long URL, put it into a database and then simply assign a small code to it.
When you visit the short url, the site simply looks at the code, then re-directs you to the real URL that is stored in their database. When I need to make a short url I choose to use tiniuri.com - simply because when you create a new short url they give you a couple of different codes and the option to email the details to yourself so you can remember what the code/site is.
