Fun in the Snow
Skiing on a pair of sticks dates back a long, long way - there are references in rock drawings that are at least 4000 years old. With a much shorter history, the snowboard has it roots in surfing and skateboarding. True, they both involve snow, but that is where things differ! Like Skiing, there are several disciplines of snowboarding. Since Snowboarding developed in the US in the 60’s it has come a long way and finally in 1998 it was accepted as a Winter Olympics sport.
The Half-Pipe and the crazy aerial stunts are what most people recognize about what most consider to be an Extreme Sport. Yes, more younger people who have grown up with a skateboard or surfboard are more likely to grab a snowboard and give it a go. The French Alps offer snowboarding chalets in Val d’Isere. The Alps with a huge number of visitors offer great snowboarding and also skiing. If a snowboard is beyond your grasp then skiing in La Plagne might be more your pace.
If you are like me and end up spending more time on your butt in the snow then snowboarding might not be your sport! I love spending time in the snow when I can, but along with that I love my luxuries as well!
